Christian Retreat in Cornwall
The House of Doves mission is twofold:- To rescue the present generation from the damage of stress, teach enough of them so they can go on to do the same for others, and to do this in a space where people can also come to rest, to think, to pray, or simply to be. From   personal   experience   and   research,   Dove   founder Annie   Frazer   Simpson   is   aware   of   an   increasingly   urgent   need   to   reach out   to   people,   of   all   faiths   and   none,   with   a   means   to   offset   the   effects   of   stress   in   modern   living,   to   get   to   people   while   they   are still at least partially in control of their own lives, before the sick note, the time off and the anti-depressants. The House of Doves offer is simple:- Time and space, peace and quiet, for people who want to regain control over their lives or take a fresh look at the future, or to simply rediscover who they are, plus appropriate support, guidance and expert input to help in the process. The   plan   is   to   establish   a   Retreat   House   in   North   Cornwall,   a   safe   place   which   will   also   be   an   enabling   place.      For   a   feel   of this,   do   look   at   our   ‘Vision’   page .      We   are   already   developing   the   ministry   the   house   will   offer,   but   we   are   limited   to   one-day events   usually   offered   in   private   homes.      There   is   so   much   more   we   want   to   be   able   to   do!      In   order   to   expand   the   work,   for which we believe there is a serious need, we plan an actual House of Doves and all that goes with it. These are some of the comments we have received on what we do now:- “Very well planned with varied activities” – “Really enjoyed it” – “Very inspiring” – “Please have more” – “Leaving happy, relaxed, excited” – “A deep sense of the Lord’s presence” – “It had been a difficult week.  I thought: what I need is a Dove Day.” The   House   of   Doves   Ltd   is   owned   by   Annie   Frazer   Simpson.   It   will   operate   as   a   social   enterprise,   that   is   to   say   a   ‘business with social outcomes’, with all profits ploughed back into the work.   We envisage the House of Doves as a cluster of domestic-scale buildings capable of providing, at different times, a ‘bolt-hole’ for individuals, a residential study centre for adults wanting to pursue their own hobbies and interests, or a small conference venue.  It will be within range of the exciting scenery of the North Cornish coast, the drama of Bodmin Moor and the quiet river valleys between.   This   cluster   of   buildings   will   provide   commercially   managed   holiday   accommodation   (itself   a   kind   of   bolt-hole)   during   the high   season,   in   order   to   generate   revenue   in   support   of   an   extended   programme   of   life-skills   (anti-stress)   workshops   and   other courses   including   Christian   retreats,   staged   during   the   rest   of   the   year.   We   have   now   found   just   such   a   property   and   we   are   in process of acquiring it (autumn 2016). Located in North Cornwall, secluded yet close to the A30, it will be easily reached from Exeter and Plymouth, also not too far from either Bristol or the far south-west of Cornwall itself (which is far enough away to make a weekend stay worthwhile). We   have   successfully   negotiated   agreement   in   principal   for   a   substantial   mortgage   and   we   are   now   actively   fundraising for   the   balance   of   the   purchase   price   and   the   first   stage   of   additional   development.      We   are   open   to   receive   pledges   of support, whether financial or practical, and anyone wishing to ‘sow into’ the project, will of course, be welcome. Please   email   in   the   first   instance   with   your   contact   details,   to   contact@thehouseofdoves.co.uk      so   we   can   answer   any queries you may have and to make arrangements. Please include the word ‘support’ in the subject line.
