The House of Doves is a Christian Retreat Ministry in North Cornwall - Terms & Conditions | Web Design by Kestrel
One day soon… we will build The House of Doves (in Cornish, Chi Kelemmi), a Christian Retreat House here in North Cornwall. Its aim will be to provide a safe place which is also an enabling place Where people can escape from modern-day stress to rest and be refreshed Where they can connect with God and hear from him for their future In the meantime, we have begun the work confident that the house will follow. A People Place (attributed to William J Crockett) If this is not a place where tears are understood Where can I go to cry? If this is not a place where my questions can be asked Where do I go to seek? If this is not a place where my feelings can be heard Where do I go to speak? If this is not a place where my spirit can take wing Where can I go to fly? “Oh, that I had the wings of a Dove!  I would fly away and be at rest… I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and the storm.” Psalm 55: vv 4-8 “They should come to it weary and go away made new” from “The Bird in the Tree” by Elizabeth Goodge (Hodder Paperback 1967) “The gulf of time was so wide between them that she could not fully share their thoughts or their outlook, their torments or their battles, which were of their generation and not of hers, she could only love them and tend them and make for them a refuge to which they could fly when those same thoughts and struggles had wearied them beyond endurance… … then [she] knew what she was going to do with the rest of her life. She was going to build… somewhere to which her children and her grandchildren could escape.  Not a permanent escape… but that temporary one that is the right of every man… They should find peace there and the cleansing of their sins.  ‘It will be like an animal sanctuary, but for humans, a place from which, once they are healed we can ‘release them back into the wild’.
